Jean-Philippe Bergeron returns to New Smyrna for the Red Eye 50/50

New Smyrna, Florida, January 7, 2022— It’s a somewhat unexpected start to the season for Canadian driver Jean-Philippe Bergeron. He will take the wheel of the #15 Racecar Solutions (RCS) car at New Smyrna this Saturday, January 8th in the Red Eye 50/50. “In talking with Jamie Skinner (owner of RCS), he offered me the opportunity to drive the #15 car that was still available for the event. I wasn’t planning on going back to the track until February, but my parents were planning on traveling to Florida this week so I made arrangements to go with them,” said the driver, who didn’t have to be convinced for long.

Jean-Philippe Bergeron did his first laps in Pro Late Model in the United States a year ago at the same event. At the time, it was a learning event in preparation for the World Series of Asphalt which is part of the famous Speedweek calendar preceding the Daytona 500. Jean-Philippe finished in 5th position, which impressed many. “I expect a good result this weekend. Last year, I participated in three events at New Smyrna including the Red Eye 50/50, the World Series of Asphalt and the Governor’s Cup. I became familiar with the team, the track and the Pro Late Model cars. I only have one goal for this weekend’s race: the top step of the podium.” Underlines the determined driver.

A 2nd Quebecer on Track

Jean-Philippe Bergeron will not be the only Quebecer on track this weekend. Stock car driver Mathieu Kingsbury will be driving the number 99 RCS car, also in the Pro Late Model category. The two men will be teammates for a race! “I wanted to try this. Martin D’Anjou, from Festidrag Development, put me in touch with the RCS people. If things go well this weekend, I could be competing in the World Series of Asphalt in February,” said the Blainville driver. The two men will certainly put on a good show for the Quebecers who will travel to the event. Many stock car fans who are currently in Florida have already made plans to attend the event, including renowned race car driver and sports commentator Didier Schraenen. “It’s always nice to see people from home performing in the United States. I’m a big fan of racing and I’ll be watching their performances closely,” said the RDS NASCAR host and Festidrag.TV contributor.
